MAN´S SEARCH FOR MEANING by Viktor E. Frankl

Author: Viktor E. Frankl is a renowned psychologist, psychiatrist, and Holocaust survivor. He is best known for developing logotherapy, a psychotherapeutic method that focuses on finding meaning in life as a means of coping with suffering

Book: "Man's Search for Meaning" is a memoir and psychological exploration of the human experience of suffering. It was written by the author in nine days in 1946, after returning to his former home in Vienna, Austria, to learn that the Nazis had murdered his pregnant wife, his parents, his brother and his community of friends. The book is divided into two parts: the first explores Frankl's experiences in the concentration camps, while the second explains his psychotherapeutic method, logotherapy. The book is a powerful and thought-provoking read that delves into the importance of finding purpose and meaning in even the most dire of circumstances.

Opinion: This book will leave a lasting impression on all who read it – Actually I think that most people with a well-functioning limbic cortex & amygdala that fully immerse in the book will cry at some point. Frankl's writing is raw and honest, and it is difficult not to be moved by his story. The book helps to better understand the human condition and the resilience of the human spirit. The author's personal experiences of suffering in concentration camps add a powerful and authentic touch to the book, making it a true masterpiece of literature. Besides, I also found the concept of logotherapy really interesting, especially for the increasing number of young hedonists...

Logotherapy is a psychotherapeutic method developed by Viktor E. Frankl. The word "logotherapy" comes from the Greek word "logos," which means "meaning." Logotherapy is based on the idea that the primary motivation for human beings is the search for meaning and purpose in life. Frankl believed that people who find meaning in their lives are better able to cope with suffering and adversity. He also believed that the search for meaning is a key aspect of mental health and well-being. Logotherapy is thus focused on helping individuals find meaning in their lives, whether it be through work, relationships, or other pursuits. This can include techniques such as reframing negative experiences, identifying personal values, and setting goals. It is different from other psychotherapeutic methods such as psychoanalysis or behaviorism, which focus more on the unconscious mind and changing behavior respectively. Logotherapy instead emphasizes the role of consciousness and free will in the search for meaning, and it is often used as an adjunct to other forms of therapy.
