Author: Henry Hazlitt was one of the most brilliant journalists, philosophers, and economists of the XX. century. With his “Austrian framework”, he wrote about economic, social and political affairs in the most relevant newspapers of his time (such as the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal). He wrote this book to expose the popular fallacies of his time. What he didn’t know was that those fallacies would be the policies of almost every government for the whole century.
Book: The book consists of 25 brief chapters. In each one he discusses one popular fallacy regarding a concrete policy or action. By analysing not only the immediate results in the short term for a concrete group, but also, the overall effect in the society as a whole in different time spans, he shows the perverse consequences of almost every socialist policy.
Opinion: This book should be a must for every citizen who is going to vote in the next elections. I liked the simplified way in which he explains facts in a logical and organized way. The content could be somewhat simple for many of you; however, it will be extremely valuable for those who are starting with the subject.
